Cargill to release plant-based meat alternatives
Another plant-based protein product will hit the market in April. Cargill announced they will offer a private-label patty and ground product to foodservice and retail outlets, allowing them to capture a share of the alternative protein market.
Cargill says they’ve invested seven billion dollars globally in animal proteins in the last five years and made strategic investments in alternative protein. The company says the new pea-based and soy-based products will be made in their existing facilities including Waco, Texas, and are comparable in consistency and flavor to beef-based offerings.
Cargill’s plant-based protein products will compete with products from Beyond Meat and Impossible Foods, which are already on the market.
