Corn groups working towards higher ethanol blends
Devising a plan for a national high octane, low carbon fuel standard has been a top priority for state and national corn groups at Commodity Classic.
Harold Wolle is a past president of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association and serves on the NCGA board of directors. He tells Brownfield they are looking for ways to get higher ethanol blends in fuel.
“How are we going to get there? With a low carbon, high octane standard that would require the use of higher-level octane, specifically higher level octane fuels that would be burned in engines that are specifically designed for it.”
Mike Moreland, President of the Missouri Corn Growers Association, tells Brownfield developing a high octane, low carbon fuel standard will require a legislative process at the federal level.
“This is something we need to be starting now to have it ready in the next five to six years.”
Wolle and Moreland agree that pushing for more E15 sales and sharing the benefits of ethanol are actions that can be done now to aid in the process.
