Dairy leaders ask for appropriation support
Dairy leaders made their priorities for Congress clear during a recent D.C. fly-in in order to gain support in the appropriation process.
Members of the International Dairy Foods Association are asking federal lawmakers to fund research, a SNAP milk incentive pilot program and dairy labeling standards in the 2021 fiscal year.
The SNAP milk incentive program was authorized in the 2018 Farm Bill and funded $1 million in fiscal year 2020. The group is asking for additional funds that help SNAP participants buy more milk.
Congress has previously funded $3 million to find solutions for ice cream waste and dairy leaders want to see additional, annual appropriations to help eliminate major food waste as well as additional funds for the FDA office responsible to modernize dairy standards of identity.
