Minnesota hemp license deadline March 31st

Growers and processors of hemp in Minnesota have about three weeks left to apply for a license.

Minnesota Department of Agriculture Assistant Commissioner Whitney Place says MDA believes in the potential of the developing industry, and those interested simply need to apply by March 31st.

This is year five of the state’s hemp pilot program, and Minnesota Industrial Hemp Association president Dave Ladd tells Brownfield there continues to be a learning curve.

“USDA is setting some interim rules, but the states are still going to be able to impose more restrictive requirements if they choose to do so.”

Place says 550 people held licenses to grow or process hemp in Minnesota last year, and over 7,300 acres and 400,000 indoor square feet were planted.
