USDA local offices doing biz by phone
Local USDA offices are no longer open for in-person visits but Under Secretary Bill Northey says it’s a necessary step to take during the coronavirus outbreak, “We’ll still have that same personal service. It’ll be over the phone for the time being.”
And, Northey says all USDA, FSA, and NRCS offices are looking at ways to be flexible with program deadlines, “Some states have some conservation program deadlines. I think they’re looking at extending those. We’ll be as flexible as we can be and we’ll continue to look at dates coming up to make sure that we give as much time for folks to be able to get their applications in as we can.”
Northey says farmers should call their local offices and set up a time and a way to get information exchanged.
