Winter storm warning in effect for through Friday morning

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Muscatine and surrounding areas through 7 a.m. Friday, with as much as 5-8 inches of snow possible.

Snow falling across northeast Missouri, southeast Iowa and west central Illinois was expected to expand north and east overnight, impacting most of eastern Iowa and Northwest Illinois south of the Highway 30 corridor.

The heaviest snow was expected to fall along and south of the highway 34 corridor in eastern Iowa and west of Galesburg in Illinois. There, the heavy wet snow may fall
at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour tonight, leading to slick snow and ice covered roads and poor visibility.

The heavy wet snow may also lead to downed tree branches and possible power outages.
Snow will end across the area from west to east between 6 am and 9 a.m. Friday morning.

Total snow accumulations of 4 to 6 inches are expected, with higher amounts possible in the southern half of Muscatine County.
