State check off, Ag Department ask retailers to lift dairy purchasing limits
Wisconsin’s dairy checkoff and state ag department continue reaching out to retailers, asking them to stop limiting dairy product purchases. Interim Ag Secretary Randy Romanski says, “Farmers are faced with this really difficult choice of disposing of milk. It’s an interesting dynamic to go to a grocery store and see limits being placed on the stores.”
Romanski says his department and Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin have been working together to educate the public about why some purchasing limits for milk, butter, and other products might have been in place. He says they’re also working with retailers to lift those limits. “Between Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin and our agency, we’ve reached out to outlets that have had those things, had those limits in place, and we’ve had some success in some of those places lifting limits.”
Romanski says they’ve worked with the Wisconsin Grocers Association and their President and CEO Brandon Scholz to urge retailers to remove limits on dairy. Consumers can also ask their local store managers to remove limits.
So far, Romanski confirms Festival, Pick ‘n Save and Target stores across the country have removed all limits, and that Kwik Trip and Metcalfe’s never had them.
