Another wet week slows Minnesota fieldwork

More precipitation on top of wet soil limited fieldwork for Minnesota farmers.  USDA reporters say only two days were suitable for fieldwork, and most of that work was rock picking and applying manure or fertilizer.  Some oats were planted, and some of the vegetable crop plantings began.

As of Sunday, only 2% of Minnesota’s barley, 10% of the oats, 3% of the potatoes, and 2% of the sugarbeets are planted.  USDA says only scattered corn and spring wheat planting took place last week because of wet weather and saturated soils.

Topsoil moisture across Minnesota is 61% adequate and 37% surplus, while subsoil moisture is 55% adequate and 43% surplus.
