#Plant20 starts better than historically bad #Plant19

Corn planting is off to a better start than a year ago.

USDA meteorologist Brad Rippey says nationally, seven percent of the intended corn acreage is planted as of April 19th.

“That is behind the five year average of nine percent, but ahead of last year’s five percent.”

Texas leads the way at 64 percent complete, but Rippey says corn planting has yet to begin in parts of the northern Corn Belt.

States like Michigan, North Dakota, Ohio, and South Dakota.”

In the Midwest, Missouri has made the greatest amount of planting progress so far at 11 percent.  But Rippey says that’s still 14 points slower than normal.
