Warm wx boosted corn planting in Missouri

A central Missouri farmer says he had a good four days of planting last week. Andy Clay grows corn and soybeans in Cooper and Moniteau counties, “We took advantage of every minute that we possibly could during those four days. Actually, we got a few hundred more acres of corn planted and actually got a few hundred acres of soybeans put in.”

Clay started planting corn in early April before the big cold snap came through in mid-April, “We gambled and had some good GDUs and we put a little over 300 acres in in those few days. And I was just driving around scouting them yesterday and they’re coming up and you can actually row ‘em already so I’m pleasantly surprised!”

Missouri corn planting reached 25% complete as of Sunday. Soybeans were 2% planted. Rice reached 22%. Winter wheat headed was 20%.
