Farmer reports favorable conditions for corn planting

Western Indiana Farmer Kevin Cox says conditions have been favorable for corn planting so far.

“If everything holds together depending on if it rains tonight or not, we might actually even get all of our corn finished up yet tonight really late or tomorrow,” he says.

He says cooler temperatures have been a concern in his area.

“We don’t have anything up so it hasn’t hurt anything from that standpoint and soil temperatures have finally gotten into a range where things will germinate, but it’s been cold,” he says. “That’s the reason we held off until a week ago today.”

Cox says the planting season is off to a much better start than last year.

“We’re going into good conditions and the forecast is looking favorable,” he says.

Cox grows corn and soybeans in Clay and Parke counties.
