Most South Dakota crops good, pasture conditions vary
The USDA says South Dakota crops are doing well in most areas.
Corn is rated as 72% good and 14% excellent, with 89% of the corn silking and 32% in dough stage which is way ahead of both last year and the average.
Seventy-two percent of Soybeans are in good condition with 13% rated excellent. Soybean blooming is near average at 82%, and 64% of the state’s beans are setting pods.
Eighty-seven percent of South Dakota’s winter wheat is harvested, which is near average but way ahead of last year.
Sixty-four percent of the state’s oats are harvested, with 59% in good or excellent condition. Sorghum is rated 69% good to excellent. South Dakota pastures have mixed conditions, with 14% in poor condition, 37% fair, 43% good, and only 3% in excellent condition.
