New USGC Chair focused on export relationships
Creating and solidifying grain export relationships is top priority for the newly elected Chairman of the US Grains Council.
Jim Raben, a farmer from southeast Illinois and representative for the Illinois Corn Marketing board, tells Brownfield his theme in this position is “Building Relationships, Building Trade.”
“Relationships go a long way in getting the business that you want. Price definitely plays a factor, but if you have a good relationship with them, they will buy from you.”
Raben says he hopes to go on trade missions to countries that are not currently big buyers of US grain.
“Just to try to build that relationship so that they will look at us and not Argentina or Brazil or Ukraine to buy their corn products.”
He says maintaining good relationships with current grain buyers is also important.
