Phase One progress to be discussed
Top U.S. and Chinese trade officials will reportedly meet virtually next week to discuss progress on the phase one trade deal.
Various media reports this week indicated talks would take place on or around August 15th, roughly six months after the deal came into force in February.
The discussion on trade comes as diplomatic relations between the two countries have reached new lows. The South China Morning Post quotes an adviser to the Chinese government as saying if the U.S. continues to intensify political and diplomatic pressure on China, it could threaten the future of the trade deal.
China has ratcheted up its purchases of U.S. farm goods in recent weeks but still lags far behind on its purchase commitments.
