Mostly dry weather helps Wisconsin farmers make harvest progress

The harvest continues in Wisconsin, as limited rains allowed farmers in the fields for most of last week. 

Corn silage harvests are from 78% to 95% finished statewide except for northcentral Wisconsin, which is only 39% finished.  Southwestern Wisconsin is ahead of the rest in completing corn silage.

Corn for grain is 96% dented, which is 17 days ahead of average and a full month ahead of last year.  Wisconsin corn is rated 77% good to excellent statewide.

Ninety-five percent of the state’s soybeans are coloring, with 79% dropping leaves  Several growers are harvesting soybeans in the southern part of the state and a few elsewhere, making the harvest 10% complete as of Sunday.  The beans are rated 79% good to excellent.

Potato growers made a lot of progress last week, as 72% of the crop is now in the bin, sixteen days ahead of average.

Winter wheat planting is now 58% finished stateside with 28% of that wheat emerging.

Fourth-cut alfalfa is 87% finished, with three quarters of it done in northwestern Wisconsin, with more progress in other parts of the state.
