South Dakota corn harvest at 20% as soybeans reach 60%

Harvest is progressing faster than normal in South Dakota.

The latest weekly crop report from USDA shows soybeans at 60 percent harvested, well ahead of four percent last year and the five-year average of 27 percent.

The corn harvest reached 20 percent by Sunday, besting last year’s pace by 19 percentage points and eclipsing the average of nine percent.

Winter wheat planting, at 70 percent done, is near the 72 percent average.

Sorghum is 33 percent harvested, which is faster than both four percent a year ago and the usual pace of 13 percent.
