Southern Minnesota farmer prioritizes fields with downed corn
A south-central Minnesota farmer began the harvest with corn damaged by wind.
Wanda Patsche of Welcome says toward the end of the growing season, strong winds laid down crops in a couple of fields.
“Those were actually the first two farms that we harvested this year. A little bit on the wet side, definitely wetter than what we wanted, but we wanted to make sure we could get that corn.”
They had to combine in one direction, which she says more than doubled the time.
“Because you can’t go as fast when you’re going through (the field). There were a lot of times I was only going like 1.8 miles per hour, and typically I could be up in that 3.5 to 3.6 if it was in ideal conditions.”
Patsche tells Brownfield while the moisture was in the mid to upper 20’s, yields were surprisingly good.
She and her family finished harvesting soybeans Tuesday and will be moving back into corn this week.
