Stabenow announces new federal grants in Michigan

Senate Ag Committee Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow is announcing more than $1 million new federal grant opportunities to support local farmers and food economies in Michigan as part of the 2018 Farm Bill.

Nearly $750,000 has been awarded to Michigan State University to improve food system collaboration and access to local food in Southwest Michigan and the Upper Peninsula to through USDA’s new Regional Food Systems Partnership Program.

The Health Department of Northwest Michigan received $210,000 to expand five farmers markets in the region as part of USDA’s Farmers Market Promotion Program.

Damian’s Craft Meats was granted more than $95,000 to increase the production and distribution of locally produced meat in Southeast Michigan through USDA’s Local Food Promotion Program.
