Station Spotlight: KILJ AM/FM
Brownfield is proud to partner with KILJ 105.0 FM and AM 1130, Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The Smooth Sounds/Country Gold stations in Henry County are well ingrained in the community of Mount Pleasant and all of Southeast Iowa.
We asked some questions so you can get to know them a little better!
How long has your station been on the air?
We are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year! October 1970
How long have you been a Brownfield affiliate?
Good question! We are not sure! We have carried Brownfield programming for decades now.
What Brownfield programs do you air?
Morning Agribusiness News, Brownfield Opening Livestock Report, Chicago Board of Trade Open, Farmbreaks, Mid-Day Iowa Ag News, Late Session Commodity Update, Weekend Market Wrap and Weekend Ag Matters.
Tell us about the services your station provides.
What sets KILJ apart is that we are community focused. We proudly carry programs such as our Breakfast Club show that tells listeners about organizations, programs and events in the area. Our morning show talks about community events and even lists the area schools’ lunch menus. We run community reminders free of charge throughout the day telling about events. We air national, state and local newscasts throughout the day as well as local sportscasts and broadcast sporting events. Our news department even covers the music and arts scene at the area high school. We are a National Weather Service station as well, airing weather reports every 15 minutes. We provide special programming like Community Theater radio theater programs, Sunday religious programming, college sports broadcasts, political candidate forums, and more. We are proud to be in southeast Iowa!
Tell us about your community involvement.
KILJ is very involved in Mount Pleasant and southeast Iowa. We strive to be a community-focused station. We have a weekday morning Breakfast Club program that showcases events and organizations in the area. We are proud to sponsor events around the community. Some examples of sponsorships include, Mount Pleasant little league, Main Street Mount Pleasant, Midwest Old Threshers, Mount Pleasant Area Chamber Alliance, Mount Pleasant Music Boosters, and more. Plus we offer prizes for silent auctions and various fundraisers for non-profits. To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we donated 50 trees to be planted across communities in Henry County. Our employees serve on area boards for non-profits like the Enhance Henry County Foundation, Iowa Wesleyan University, Southeastern Community College, Mount Pleasant Community Theatre, Mount Pleasant’s Childcare Center initiative and many more. Our employees are involved in service clubs and organizations like Rotary and Kiwanis and local churches.
Tell us about any involvement you have, or coverage you provide, to any agriculture related groups. We provide a monthly program for the Henry County Cattlemen as well as interviews for the Henry County Pork Producers. We provide coverage for Pork Month, Beef Month, Ag Week, Harvest Safety, 4-H Week and more. We also cover the FFA group at Mt. Pleasant High School. We provide coverage and interviews of the Henry, Louisa, Lee, Washington, Jefferson and Van Buren County Fairs. As part of Ag Week, we interview producers and ag-related businesses.
What other Learfield IMG College networks or services are you affiliated with? Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball and Iowa State University football and basketball.
