Farmer sees yield boost on early planted soybeans

Central Illinois famer Ron Kindred witnessed the benefits of early planted soybeans this year.

He tells Brownfield the soybeans they were able to plant in early April yielded in the mid to upper 70’s, but they weren’t able to plant beans again until late May.

“Those soybeans topped out at 64 bushels per acre, so we learned that we do get a yield boost from planting early on soybeans and we will try to plant corn and soybeans at the same time next year if possible.”

On Wednesday Kindred had about 350 acres of corn and 40 acres of beans left to harvest.

“That is always my goal to be done by Halloween with harvest and it looks like we’ve got a chance to make it this year so that would be a pretty normal year.”

Kindred serves as the District 9 Director for the Illinois Soybean Association and farms near Atlanta, IL.
