Nearly $300,000 approved for food & ag projects

The Michigan Agriculture and Rural Development Commission has approved nearly $300,000 for three investment projects this year through the Food and Ag Investment Fund.

The grants leverage more than $90 million in additional private investment in the state’s food and ag industry.

The largest grant of $150,000 was awarded to Hudsonville Creamery for a facility expansion in Holland and includes a new cold storage building.

Star of the West Milling Co. in Frankenmuth was granted $80,000 for a new flaking building and processing line for ready-to-eat food products.

A new accelerator/incubator in Muskegon called FARM (Food, Agriculture, Research, and Manufacturing Center) was awarded $63,500 to help expand facilities including commercial food production testing and training.
