Minnesota Farm Bureau and Farmers Union leaders see opportunities for biofuels under Biden

Leaders with Farm Bureau and Farmers Union see opportunities for biofuels growth under a Biden Administration.

Minnesota Farm Bureau president Kevin Paap says he expects a definite shift toward climate-based policy with Joe Biden as President.

“More things with climate change, greenhouse gases, global warming, however you want to define it. And quite frankly, that’s a good place for biofuels.”

He tells Brownfield renewable fuels like ethanol can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Minnesota Farmers Union president Gary Wertish sees a less-intrusive EPA under Biden’s watch.

“Time will tell as we go forward, there’s no doubt about that. But there was a lot of instability there with President Trump’s EPA handing out the Small Refinery Waivers that hurt us a lot with our ethanol usage, and really depressed the price of corn too.”

He says Farmers Union is pushing for even higher blends of ethanol than 15 percent and hopes the Biden Administration would be receptive to that.
