Minnesota Hog Depopulation Cost Share deadline is December 1st

Minnesota pig farmers adversely affected by market disruptions related to COVID-19 have until December first to apply for financial help.

Minnesota Pork CEO David Preisler tells Brownfield the Minnesota Department of Ag’s Hog Depopulation Cost-Share Program is strictly for farms that had to put animals down.

“Because they either didn’t have a place for them to go packing plant-wise, or their barns were full and were not able to move small pigs into finishing barns.”

Preisler says eligibility also hinges on depopulation occurring between March 2nd and September 30th of this year.

Payments are $30 per market-weight hog and $5 per animal for pigs under 25 pounds.

“And again, it’s only for animals that were put down. It does not cover animals that were just given away. And the application process is really very simple.”

To apply, complete this online application.
