USDA reports strong October pork demand
U.S. pork supplies dropped from September to October, implying strong domestic and export demand.
The USDA says pork in cold storage at the end of October was down 27% on the year at 448.157 million pounds, with big year to year declines in many of the major consumer cuts.
Beef demand was comparatively lackluster, with supplies up 7% from the previous year at 500.473 million pounds.
That drop in pork pulled the red meat total 12% below a year ago to 982.991 million pounds.
Poultry was down 4% on the year at 1.293 billion pounds, with chicken and turkey both contracting by 4% to 921.137 million and 377.033 million pounds, respectively.
The USDA’s next cold storage report is out December 22nd.
