Fractional changes in USDA indices for October
The USDA says producers made a little less in October than in September, while paying slightly more money.
The index of prices received was 0.2% lower on the month, with gains for milk, hogs, broilers, and market eggs canceled out by losses for rice, dry beans, potatoes and sunflowers. The crops index was 6.4% below the prior month, while the livestock index was 7.7% above that previous mark.
The all milk price for October 2020 was $20.20 per hundredweight, up $2.30 from September and $.20 higher than in October 2019.
The index of prices paid was up 0.7% as increases for feeder pigs, feed grains, complete feeds, concentrates canceled out decreases in diesel, gasoline, wage rates, and other services.
Year to year, the index of prices received was up 3.3%, with the crops index up 5.5% and livestock unchanged, and the index of prices paid was six tenths of a percent higher.
