St. Louis livestock export facility exports first load

The Livestock Export and Inspection Facility at St. Louis – Lambert International Airport recently exported its first load of livestock.

Tonya Amen, the executive director of the National Center for Beef Excellence, tells Brownfield the18,000-foot facility provides ‘great’ advantages to Midwest livestock producers like ease of access, being a livestock only dedicated facility…

“And really the third thing that makes it really special for Missouri and for the Midwest, is the fact that it is an inspection facility and port of embarkation all under one roof.

She said the facility being both an inspection facility and port of embarkation has multiple benefits.

“This really steps up things in terms of the animal welfare component,” Amen said. “This really steps up things in terms of the animal welfare component, being able to do all of that under one roof as well as the expense associated with the additional trucking that’s not required at the St. Louis facility.”

Amen said exports leaving the facility will go ‘anywhere an aircraft will fly’.
