Illinois Farm Bureau working to resolve issues highlighted by pandemic

Disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic and goals to move forward were highlighted in Illinois Farm Bureau President Richard Guebert’s annual address.

During the virtual IFB Annual Meeting Saturday Guebert said they will prioritize advocating for farmers’ roles in the food supply chain in 2021.

“The dramatic shock to the food supply this past spring has raised questions about the resiliency of the US food system. Industry concentration is under a microscope.”

Guebert says this has created questions of uncertainty for farmers as well.

“How do farmers increase their share of the food dollar? How will the food trends of recent years shape the food system of the future and the farmers role in it? These are questions farm bureau intends to explore.”

He says IFB will also continue to support farmers through the pandemic and beyond by providing tools and trainings on how to cope with pandemic disruptions and the depressed farm economy.
