NCGA will continue to prioritize Next Generation Fuels Act

The National Corn Growers Association is prioritizing the Next Generation Fuels Act as climate becomes a top priority for President-Elect Joe Biden.

Anne Thompson is the director of PAC and political strategy with NCGA.

“We really want it to speak and help us gain some momentum and get a few more co-sponsors on board so that we have a  strong re-introduction when the new session of Congress begins in January,” she says.

Thompson says the bill, introduced by Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, takes a first step in a process to transition the fuel supply to a higher-octane fuel.

“In addition to it increasing corn demand, it would also have the benefits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and increasing fuel efficiency,” she says.

Speaking during the Ohio Grain Farmers Symposium, she said it will take a grassroots effort to help prioritize and move forward the Next Generation Fuels Act. Thompson adds that NCGA is optimistic about the future of the legislation and the possibility of it being included in a broader climate package.
