Report shows nationwide E15 could speed up climate progress

A new report by Growth Energy shows the impact a nationwide shift to E15 could have on combatting climate change.

Based on their analysis of data from EPA, USDA and others, the authors estimate if the United States transitioned from E10 to E15 nationwide for 2001 and later model year vehicles, greenhouse gas emissions would decrease by more than 17 million tons per year, which is the equivalent of removing approximately 3.8 million vehicles from the road.

Growth Energy reports more than 2200 retail locations now offer E15, marketed as Unleaded 88 and despite COVID-19 challenges, that number increased by 10% in 2020. Plus, 95% of vehicles on the road today are approved by EPA as E15 compatible.

CEO Emily Skor says the report is clear evidence that higher biofuel blends could “turbo charge” the nation’s clean energy progress while supporting job growth and offering consumers a clean, affordable fuel option.
