Meyer named Chief Economist at USDA

Dr. Seth Meyer will return to USDA to be the new Chief Economist.  Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue made the announcement on Monday.  Meyer will replace Robert Johansson who is leaving the department to become the Associate Director of Economics and Policy Analysis for the American Sugar Alliance at the end of January.

Meyer says this is a challenging time for the food and ag sector and he’s honored to have been asked to rejoin USDA.  He says he’s looking forward to serving the American public and USDA’s many stakeholders. Meyer currently serves as the Associate Director for the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) at the University of Missouri.

Perdue says they’re excited to bring back Meyer and is certain he will do a tremendous job serving the people of American agriculture.
