Specialty crop dollars expand in new COVID package
The latest COVID assistance package includes additional funding for specialty crop growers and strengthens ongoing USDA programs.
The funding includes $100 million for Specialty Crop Block Grants to support specialty crop sectors and their ability to respond to COVID-19 through investments in marketing of crops, increasing training, and research.
The package includes $13 billion for support to farmers, ranchers, and processors impacted by the coronavirus, including supplemental payments to specialty crop producers.
The bill also includes $1.5 billion for food purchases along with dollars earmarked for local agriculture and much more.
Ranking Member of the Senate Ag Committee Debbie Stabenow of Michigan says she’s very pleased a bipartisan agreement was finally reached that will help both families and farmers in need.
