RFA encourages Biden to deny waivers, reacts to EPA waiver rumor

The Renewable Fuels Association released data Monday saying if President-Elect Biden wants to secure 10.7 million metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions, he should reject 66 pending waiver requests on day one.  The RFA says another 1.2 million tons of greenhouse gases would be secured by restoring renewable fuel blending requirements illegally waived by the EPA in 2016.

RFA President Geoff Cooper also reacted to a Reuters news report that says President Trump and EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler might grant more small refinery exemptions before leaving office.  Cooper says if the rumors are true, it would establish a new low for an administration whose track record on the RFS is already horribly and shamefully blemished.  Cooper also says there is absolutely no legal or policy justification whatsoever for granting these exemptions, and he’s confident that if EPA goes through with this, the incoming Biden administration will act swiftly to reallocate the volumes erased by these waivers.
