Senators urge Biden to swiftly restore biofuels integrity

A group of US Senators is urging the incoming Biden administration to take quick action to restore integrity to the Renewable Fuels Standard and make good on campaign promises on energy and climate.

The Democrat Senators, led by Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth, have written a letter to President-Elect Biden saying the RFS was designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector, diversify fuels, strengthen national security and drive economic opportunity in America’s heartland.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor says she supports the letter which asks the incoming Biden EPA to publish Renewable Volume Obligations and reject Small Refinery waivers.

The Senators say the administration should “direct EPA to adopt the Tenth Circuit decision nationwide and swiftly reject any pending and future petitions for small refinery exemptions (SREs) that do not meet the standards set forth by the court.”

The letter is also signed by Senators Amy Klobuchar, Tina Smith, Tammy Baldwin, Debbie Stabenow and Richard Durbin.
