Biden chooses Bronough as USDA Deputy Secretary

New President Joe Biden has selected Virginia’s ag commissioner as USDA’s second-in-command.

Dr. Jewel Bronough has been leading Virginia’s ag department since 2018. She previously served as Virginia’s Farm Service Agency Executive Director, Virginia State University’s Dean of the College of Agriculture and as the state’s associate administrator for 4-H and extension programs.

The American Farm Bureau Federation supports Bronough’s nomination.  AFBF President Zippy Duvall says she is someone who understands the needs of America’s farmers and ranchers, and he appreciates the work she has done to address mental health issues in rural communities. Like Ag Secretary nominee Tom Vilsack, Bronough’s appointment must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
