Consumer interest in food supply chain grows during pandemic

The CEO of Midwest Dairy says consumer interest in where their food comes from has risen since the start of the pandemic.

Molly Pelzer tells Brownfield it’s a valuable takeaway when looking back at 2020.

“For the first time in many years, people had to stop and think about the food supply chain. And dairy has a great story to tell about how farm-to-table works, and we’re excited to clue those consumers in about that interest in where their food comes from.”

She says Midwest Dairy’s new strategic plan encourages farmers to tell their stories.

“Consumers tell us that they like to hear from dairy farmers. Dairy farmers are their most trusted source on how safe foods are, and how delicious they are as well. People are curious (about) cow care, and how we take care of the planet (too).”

Pelzer says Midwest Dairy is tapping into technology to connect consumers with farmers virtually through various social media platforms.
