Farm groups oppose Clean Cars Minnesota proposed rule

Farm groups are speaking out against the Clean Cars Minnesota proposed rule.

Minnesota Soybean Growers president Jamie Beyer tells Brownfield the EPA is asking states to follow its emission guidelines or those of California.

“So of course the concern of the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association and the other commodity groups is that we’re hitching our wagon to California and their rules, legislation, and whims.”

Beyer provided written testimony during a joint virtual hearing with the Environmental and Natural Resources Finance Committee and Natural Resources Policy and Legacy Finance Committee earlier this month.

“And we feel like in Minnesota, we’re different. And we’ve got a lot of opportunities in our state with biofuels that we should be celebrating and incorporating instead.”

Minnesota Farm Bureau is also concerned about the Clean Cars Minnesota proposal.  In a statement, the state’s largest farm organization said linking Minnesota directly to another state’s regulatory decisions is concerning.  And Farm Bureau is worried about what this rule would mean for the future of biofuels in the state.

An administrative hearing for the proposed rule takes place the third week of February and is open for public comment until mid-March.
