USB directors begin work on new investment goals

The seventy-eight farmer directors of the United Soybean Board have met virtually to begin prioritizing checkoff investments for the next year in the categories of meal, oil and sustainability.

Dan Farney, USB chair and soybean grower in Morton, Illinois, tells Brownfield he has a personal interest in soybean oil uses which number around one-thousand that he says are really cool, “There’s a high-oleic oil application for asphalt that helps bind the asphalt together better, apparently, and makes the road last longer.”

Farney says soybean meal is always a big focus, “That goes almost 100% into animal feed and we recognize that’s a very large and important part for the profitability of our soybean farmers.”

Farnery says USB directors will winnow down the list of priorities from the bucket of proposals they receive and will approve the final projects in July.
