Iowa State Fair considers dropping Avenue of Breeds

Organizers who plan to have the Iowa State Fair this year are also looking at dropping a staple attraction.

Des Moines television station KCCI reports a budget shortfall stemming from canceling the 2020 state fair has forced the fair board to consider axing the Avenue of Breeds exhibit as well as several other programs.

According to the Iowa State Fair website, the Avenue of Breeds has been located in the swine barn since 1985 and represents 100 breeds and approximately 100 to 120 animals.

KCCI says the North Polk FFA, which hosts the program, has taken to social media voicing their disapproval.

A fair spokesperson says nothing has been formally decided yet.

The 2021 Iowa State Fair is scheduled August 12th through the 22nd.
