Stimulus plan passed by House drops a few ag provisions

The stimulus package that passed the U.S. House over the weekend has more than $16-Billion dollars for ag assistance but some ag provisions did not survive.

Democrat committee leaders took out language that would have authorized federal payments for lost crops form high winds such as derechos which caused billions of dollars of damage to homes and farms in Iowa and several other states last summer.

Also dropped were references to seafood processing facilities and vessels for agriculture aid.

The nearly 2-Trillion-dollars COVID stimulus package which passed mostly along party lines – contained a $15 federal minimum wage. But, the Senate parliamentarian ruled the provision cannot be part of the budget reconciliation process.

It’s being reported that Democrats have abandoned their plans to raise worker pay through tax penalties against corporations as a plan-B wage hike.

Most farms are exempt from having to pay federal minimum wage and overtime provisions.
