Men plead guilty for trying to crash car into Muscatine police department


Two Muscatine men have pleaded guilty to lesser charges after attempting drive their car into the city police station.

The men had been charged with terrorism, but both entered guilty pleas on charges of assault on a police officer, criminal mischief and criminal gang participation.

Gilberto Daniel Castillo III, 24, was also convicted of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, He was was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Marc Anthony Castillo, 21, facing sentencing May 7. He faxes a maximum 12 years in prison.

The two men allegedly drove up to the Muscatine police department at 312 E. Fifth St. early on Aug. 9, aimed their vehicle at the building and jumped out as it continued moving. The car crashed into a flagpole and stop steps, then became pinned between stone planters. It never it the building.

No one was injured and both men were arrested at the scene.
