National Corn Growers prioritize farm bill and sustainability policies

National Corn Growers Association board members approved policy priorities for 2023 during Corn Congress at the Commodity Classic.

NCGA policy now supports the full transparency and a standardization of Environment, Social and Government scores, a number measuring a company’s sustainability practices.

Nebraska Corn Growers Association board member and farmer Dave Merrell says this information can affect interest rates for loans farmers get at the bank.

“If you lived in an area and you wanted to have a feedlot, that bank may be under pressure where they get their money from to say cattle aren’t environmentally friendly so we’ll give them a higher interest rate.”

South Dakota Corn Growers Association Past-President and farmer Scott Stahl says there’s continued support for the Department of Justice’s review of mergers and price transparency.
