Temps remain sub-average across the Corn Belt; beneficial rains central, especially southern Plains

Across the Corn Belt, chilly conditions linger, especially in the vicinity of the Great Lakes.  In fact, Freeze Warnings were in effect early Tuesday in the eastern Corn Belt, including much of Ohio and southern Michigan.  Meanwhile, a few sprinkles and snow flurries are occurring early Tuesday in the central Corn Belt.  Agricultural concerns related to recent and ongoing cold weather include potential impacts on blooming fruits and heading winter wheat.  On April 23, Missouri led the Midwest with 12% of its winter wheat acreage headed, followed by Illinois at 7%. 

On the Plains, chilly conditions persist.  Meanwhile, patchy rain developing in Oklahoma and environs signals the start of a favorably wet period for the drought-stricken central and southern Plains.  By April 23, U.S.
