A Wisconsin farmer begins planting

A southern Wisconsin farmer tells Brownfield he can finally get into his fields.

Mark Hoffmann grows about 600 acres of corn and another 600 acres of soybeans near Whitewater. “We worked up a little bit last night. I’m just actually getting ready to move the planter to go fill it up and get started after lunch.”

Hoffmann says he’s starting with his corn this year. “I use the same planter for both, and rather than keep switching them back and forth, we try to get the majority of one done first and I haven’t had a chance to do my burndown spraying for the soybeans yet, so that’s another reason for that one.”

Hoffmann says he wants to get as much seed in the ground as possible before next week’s forecasted rains.
