A rice farmer from the Missouri Bootheel says a boost in reference prices is needed for the next farm bill.
Alex Clark from Butler County says the cost of production has increased and many farmers want the Price Loss Coverage program to reflect those changes as inflation continues.
“Rice farming is more resource and input intensive, leading to increased costs in production,” he says. “As high input costs and inflation continue to impact the domestic rice industry, it’s essential rice producers can rely on farm safety net programs.”
Clark says reducing payment limits for farm safety net programs would also benefit rice producers.
