Missouri’s lieutenant governor says value-added agriculture is important to the state.
Mike Kehoe says a new American Foods Group beef processing facility outside of St. Louis, expected to be operational by 2024, is a great example of expansion.
“As a cattle producer, that’s what we’ve always wanted,” he says. “We send our cattle west to fatten because we have no processor who would build here, because there’s no fat cattle. But that’s a great first step in the beef industry.”
However, two meat production companies recently said they would close some facilities in Missouri to restructure their business.
