The DuQuoin State Fair begins on Friday and changes are being made due to extreme heat.
Assistant State Veterinarian Dr. Staci Slager tells Brownfield livestock exhibitors need to take extra steps to keep animals hydrated and cool.
“Something as simple as making sure that you’re putting up fans and as a little extra you can even install some of those misters and sprayers on those fans to keep those animals cool.”
She says the exhibitor knows their animal best and should identify factors that put their livestock at a greater risk for heat stress.
