Temps vary across the Heartland as “Idalia” crosses into the deep Southeastern U.S.

Across the Corn Belt, dry weather prevails.  However, unusually cool weather in the Great Lakes States contrasts with late-season warmth in the western Corn Belt.  Wednesday’s high temperatures will remain below 70°F in portions of the lower Great Lakes region.  On August 27, statewide topsoil moisture was at least one-half very short to short in Iowa (68%), Minnesota (60%), Nebraska (54%), and North Dakota (50%), reflecting one of the challenges crops have faced this year.
