Farmer says stress during pod set could impact soybean yields

A farmer in southwest Indiana says there was a lot of stress on the soybean crop during pod set this year.

Ben Kron tells Brownfield he’s seen a lot more two-bean pods than normal. “I would like to call three-bean pods a normal-sized pod,” he says.  “And we’ve had a lot of two beans this year.”

He says there are still a lot of pods clustered together and even with fewer beans per pod he doesn’t expect a significant impact on yields.  “We’re still calling it pretty close to an average yield,” he says.  “But I’m thinking it may be at best average, maybe we will kind of float in that area.
