Viengsavanh ‘Vinny’ Sivanthaphanith, 66, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023, at home.
Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Donations may be made in Vinny’s honor to Wat Lau Buddhavath of Des Moines.
Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.
Viengsavanh was born on December 8, 1956, in Sikhay, Vientiane, Laos, the son of Vouthy and Oun Thongvankhamdy Sivanthaphanith. He married May Thi Quang on January 1, 1980, in Vientiane, Laos.
He received his education in Laos at Lycée Vientiane. He moved to America in 1981 and worked for Heinz for 5 years then received his welding degree from Muscatine Community College and went on to work for Union Tank for 28 years.
Viengsavanh enjoyed fishing, playing music and dancing with his wife, drawing, painting, watching and playing soccer, doing back flips when goals were scored, laughing, and playing practical jokes.
Viengsavanh is survived by his wife, May Sivanthaphanith of Muscatine; two children, Vassaly Sivanthaphanith and spouse, Grant Johnson and their son, Gaius Johnson, of Austin, Texas, and Anthony ‘Tony’ Sivanthaphanith of Muscatine; five siblings, Khammanh Savanthaphanith of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Sesouphon Sivanthaphanith, Toun Souphanavilay, Seenuan Sivanthaphanith, and Thouane Sivanthaphanid, all of Laos; cousin, Kham of Atlanta, Georgia; and nieces and nephews, Por and Sengdao Vanlo, Savany and Thing Vongvilay, and Minh and Feuang Kavanh.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
