A U.S. Senator from Missouri says new legislation to overturn California’s Proposition 12 law deserves immediate attention in Congress.
Josh Hawley tells Brownfield U.S. agriculture must be in full compliance of the law by January 1 and this bill called the Protecting Interstate Commerce for Livestock Producers Act would allow Congressional oversight on the issue.
“You cannot pass laws with extraterritorial effects. That basically means you can’t regulate Missouri from Sacramento and I think we need to put that into federal law.”
Hawley says Congress can send a clear message to other states considering similar legislation.
